
Seungmin Oh
Flute
Seungmin Oh, born in Korea, obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Seoul National University under the tutelage of Hyeri Yoon. She then came to the United States in 2012 to continue her studies in Carnegie Mellon University’s Certificate Program (Advanced Music Studies) and Master of Music Degree Program as a scholarship recipient in Jeanne Baxtresser’s and Alberto Almarza’s studios. She recently graduated from the Peabody Conservatory’s Artist Diploma Program in Marina Piccinini’s studio in 2017.
She has actively performed both as a soloist with the most recent invited recital at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention in 2020 and 2022, as well as the Texas Flute Festival in 2023. She debuted with her first recital when she was twelve years old in Korea at “Kumho Prodigy Solo Recital” and she was invited to perform in the “21st Young Musicians’ Festival Concert.” She then had her first U.S. debut recital in Pittsburgh, and performed more recently at the Royal Albert Hall (Elgar Hall) in London in 2017 and as the Byron Hester Artist in Houston in 2019. Also, she participated as an orchestral flutist in many global settings, including as a substitute flutist for the Symphony New Hampshire for the 2019-2022 season and New World Symphony in 2023, and as a flutist at the Tanglewood Music Festival in 2022.
Seungmin has won in numerous international competitions including the Golden Classical Music Awards 2020, the Paris International Music Competition 2019, Houston Flute Club’s 2018 Byron Hester Competition, the International Music Competition ‘London’ Grand Prize Virtuoso in 2017, the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia’s (FSGP) Young Artist Competition in 2016, and the Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition in 2013. Additionally, she has received top prizes at various competitions in Korea as well, including the Yewon Chamber Music Performance Competition, Tae Gu Broadcast Competition (TBC), Ewha Competition, Music Journal Competition, Korean Music Association Competition and Herald Competition.
Seungmin is currently a freelance flutist in DFW area with her own flute studio, while teaching in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, Birdville ISD and Hurst ISD as well as performing as a member of the Erume Flute Ensemble.
