Who takes Private Lessons?
Every student in the Grapevine Middle School Band has the opportunity to study privately with a professional musician.
Why should my child take private lessons?
Enrolling in private lessons is one of the most helpful tools for a student’s success. These lessons provide a personalized curriculum and individual attention that can be difficult to offer in a group setting.
Isn't my child already in class
Absolutely! While the group classes and rehearsals at Grapevine Middle School lay a strong foundation for musical success and can foster a high level of skill, they simply can't match the focused attention that one-on-one instruction provides. Private lesson instructors are highly qualified experts on their instruments, offering your child the individualized guidance needed to reach their fullest potential. With private lessons, students can progress at their own pace rather than being limited by the pace of the full group.
Isn't tutoring for those who struggle?
No! While these lessons may help with remedial instructions, they can also help push a student forward. Lessons are designed to provide supplemental instructions for students at all levels. Even professionals still take lessons!
Who will be my child's private lesson teacher?
Private instructors are carefully selected by the Grapevine Middle School Band Directors and go through the same rigorous hiring process as full-time district teachers. All instructors have passed background checks and are officially badged through the district. Many of them hold advanced degrees—Masters or Doctorates—in their specific instrument, bringing a high level of expertise to each lesson.
When do lessons happen?
Lessons are available before school, after school, and during a student’s band class. Before and after school lessons are offered in 30-minute or 1-hour weekly sessions. In-class lessons, which take place during the student’s band period, are 22 minutes long.

The cost of private lessons is set by the district—and it’s truly an incredible value! While many professional musicians charge $100 or more for a 30-minute lesson, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD offers 22-minute in-class lessons (or 30-minute before/after school lessons) for just $25. That’s roughly 75% less than what you’d pay elsewhere for the same high-quality instruction!
Are there scholarships available?
Yes, we do offer some scholarships. There are limited funds, so there is an application process that is approved by our booster club board. To access this application, please reach out to Mr. Lott at joshua.lott@gcisd.net.
